The diverse and mysterious Russian Far East.

The territory is the most remote region of Russia occupying an area of ​​36%.
The Far East borders on China, Japan and the USA through the Bering Strait.
The territory comprises Kamchatka, Primorsky and Khabarovsk Krai, Amur, Magadan and Sakhalin Oblasts, Yakutia and Chukotka.
A brief description of each administrative unit is presented below.

KAMCHATKA KRAI (KAMCHATKA)

The peninsula is located in the north-eastern part of Russia and distinguished by the diverse wildlife. This picturesque territory is washed by the Okhotsk and Bering Sea, as well as by the mighty Pacific Ocean. It is here that one can find the highest active volcano of the continent. The area is protected and referred to as a natural landmark as there are many natural parks, glaciers, mineral springs and hot geysers there.
The administrative center of Kamchatka Krai is Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The largest towns of the territory are Vilyuchinsk and Yelizovo. The latter holds an airport. When making a tour, one should keep in mind that the time difference between Kamchatka and Moscow is 9 hours.
The flight travel time is normally 8 hours and 40 minutes.
The distance from Moscow is 6,800 km.
The distance from the airport to the city centre is 30 km, that is why one can easily get there by car or any other means of transport.
The typical weather in the summer is rainy. In the winter the weather normally varies: heavy snows change for winds and frosts.

PRIMORSKY KRAI (PRIMORYE)

The territory is located in the southern part of the Far East. It is here that one can find unique natural parks, the Sea of Japan with its amazing marine life and picturesque mountain slopes. Primorye mostly attracts visitors by a lot of seafood ranging from laminaria to huge crabs. The territory is also known for its health resources including mud baths and mineral springs. The administrative center of Primorsky Krai is Vladivostok which has a railway junction. The largest towns of the territory are Nakhodka, Ussuriysk and Bolshoy Kamen. Vladivostok international airport is situated 4,5 km from the town of Artyom and 38 km from the city of Vladivostok.
To get there from Moscow by train takes 6 days 2 hours, by plane - 9 hours.
The time difference between Vladivostok and Moscow is 7 hours.
In the winter there prevails dry and cold weather without precipitation. The spring is lengthy with low temperatures. The summer is characterized by high humidity caused by heavy precipitation. The autumn is normally dry and warm.

KHABAROVSKY KRAI (KHABAROVSK)

From the north and east the territory is washed by the Sea of Okhotsk, the south-eastern part of the territory is washed by the Sea of Japan. Khabarovsk Krai is distinguished by its mountain relief and the diversity of woods. It comprises several islands where the native people (Nanai, Orochi, Even, etc.) come from.
Khabarovsk is considered an unofficial capital city of the Far East which holds an international airport.
To get from Moscow to Khabarovsk by plane takes 8 hours and 40 minutes and covers a distance of 6, 140 km.
The city center is only 9 km from the airport, that is why one can easily get there by any means of transport.
The largest towns of Khabarovsk Krai are Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Amursk, Nikolayevsk-on-Amur, Sovetskaya Gavan.

AMUR OBLAST

From the south and east the territory borders on China. The Amur Oblast is known for its mountain relief and scenic natural parks with unique flora and fauna listed in the Red Book. One of the most amazing plants that has been preserved since the Ice Age is Nelumbo komarovii,aka Komarov's lotus.
The administrative center of the territory is Blagoveshchensk.
The largest towns are Belogorsk and Raichikhinsk.
The nearest airport Ignatyevo is located 15 km from the administrative center.
To get there from Moscow takes 7 hours and 52 minutes and covers a distance of 5,614 km.
The time difference between Moscow and Blagoveshchensk is 6 hours.

MAGADAN OBLAST

It is a region of the Extreme North and eternal frost washed by the Sea of Okhotsk.
The territory is distinguished by the diverse relief, numerous rivers and amazing flora and fauna.
The administrative center is Magadan which holds an international airport.
To get there from Moscow takes 8 hours and 15 minutes and covers a distance of 5,904 km.
The time difference between Moscow and Magadan is 8 hours.

SAKHALIN OBLAST

The territory is located on 59 islands and separated from Japan by the sea. It is washed by the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk as well as by the Pacific Ocean. Sakhalin attracts visitors by its taiga, fir woods, sandy coasts and health resources including mineral springs.
The administrative center of the territory is Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
The largest towns are Kholmsk, Korsakov, Okha, Poronaisk.

JEWISH AUTONOMOUS OBLAST / JAO

This is the most remote region of the Far East. The southern part of the territory borders on China through the Amur River. It is here that Jews have their own rights. Mild climate, fertile soil, various fish and game species make the region really attractive.
The administrative center is Birobidzhan.
The time difference between Moscow and the town of Birobidzhan is 7 hours.
To get there from the capital city by plane takes 8 hours and 7 minutes and covers a distance of 6,006 km.

CHUKOTKA AUTONOMOUS OKRUG ( CHUKOTKA)

Chukotka is washed by the Pacific and Arctic Oceans and borders on the USA in the east. Most of its territory is considered a territory of the Extreme North which is beyond the Arctic Circle. Chukotka has not yet been completely inhabited and explored.  It is distinguished by unspoilt places and unique landscapes. It is here that one can find both Russia's northernmost town of Pevek and easternmost town of Anadyr which is also the administrative center of the territory.
The time difference between Chukotka and Moscow is 9 hours.
To get there by plane takes 8 hours and 38 minutes and covers a distance of 6,191 km. As there is a boundary regime in Chukotka, a special permit is required. It can be issued by a travel agency or obtained on being invited by a private person.

SAKHA REPUBLIC / YAKUTIA

Yakutia is the world's largest administrative unit which is considered the diamond capital of Russia. Yakutia hosts over 15 % of the world's wildlife and  can comprise five territories of France.
The Sakha Republic is the only administrative unit of Russia where there are 3 time zones. The time difference between Yakutia and Moscow ranges from 6 to 8 hours.
Over 40% of the republic's territory is beyond the Arctic Circle. It is in Oymyakon named the Northern Pole of Cold that a temperature of - 71 C was once recorded. Winters in Yakutia are distinguished by polar nights, summers - by polar days.
The administrative center of the territory is Yakutsk.
The largest towns are Neryungri, Mirny, Aldan, Udachny, Pokrovsk.
