The programme of our excursion to the city Smolensk:
-We will discuss the role of Smolensk in the history of Russia and visit the place where a unique ancient Russian text was found. The guide will also explain why burial mounds are named in such a strange way (for example, Snovid).
-We will tell you about the cathedral established by Vladimir Monomakh — the future Prince of Kiev. You will learn about the rise and fall of the Principality of Smolensk.
-We will talk about the fall of the empire of Napoleon and the role of the battle for Smolensk that took place in 1812. We will also touch on the period of the Great Patriotic War and visit the memorial with the eternal flame.
-During a walk along the main streets and around the public gardens, you will learn about the role of the governor Lopatin in the process of landscaping. We will explain where the antler of the famous deer from Gering`s cottage disappears. You will also have the opportunity to listen to the most outstanding melodies created by the greatcomposer Mikhail Glinka.
-We will visit the most well-known monument of the city — the fortress wall. In the 17th century, it destroyed the ambitious plans of many powerful rulers.
-At the end of our excursion, we will go to the Cathedral Church of the Assumption. We will discuss its history and its role in the development of the city Smolensk in particular and the country in general. We will also touch on the spiritual connection of Mikhail Kutuzov with this cathedral.
