Red Square and the Kremlin

After a tight agenda you can decide on Red Square, the heart of Moscow. When on the stoneblock pavement of the square one can soak up its unique atmosphere, feel as if time, people and cars stopped for an instant and reflect on historic events that took place there. Your route may follow “Kilometer Zero” where tourists usually make wishes and toss coins. Don’t miss changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This eye-catching procession is held hourly from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m. The Kremlin Chimes on Saviour (the Spasskaya) Tower are also impressive. One more point of your walking route may become Kazan Cathedral which is open for visitors daily from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m. On Red Square you can buy various souvenirs for your relatives and friends. At night the square is equally attractive to stroll along. But if you want to visit Lenin’s Mausoleum, the Kremlin, St. Basil’s Cathedral, you’d better devote an entire day to see all these sights. Moscow GUM

The main department store of Russia and a historical monument situated on Red Square. The unique atmosphere of Moscow GUM has always attracted many visitors. They come there for no particular reason – just to stroll along its beautiful galleries or enjoy a view of a fountain decorating the first floor of the department store. In GUM one can find famous Soviet ice cream at a price of ₽ 50. We highly recommend you to try it. For the prime minister of Japan this ice cream is a favourite sweet. Mineral water made according to authentic Soviet recipes is also worth trying when in GUM. Now and then it becomes a shelter to wait out bad weather. Here one can warm up, have a snack, visit some boutiques.

On the first floor of the department store there is an all-day supermarket to buy food, souvenirs and other goods at an average price, after 10 p.m. at a discount. Shop window dressing, thematic posters, salesperson uniform will remind you of Soviet times. Moscow GUM is an interesting place to visit at any time.
