Moscow GUM is the main department store of Russia and one of the world famous sights. Millions of tourists come there not only to do shopping or have a good time but also to learn some helpful information on its history provided by an experienced guide. Like a mirror, GUM has always reflected the country’s most significant events. It used to be a place for people to live and trade corn and arms. They say within its walls great Russian leader Joseph Stalin had to cry in public. Built more than a century ago, today Moscow GUM keeps greeting both a Hollywood star and an ordinary person wandered off in one of the numerous selling floors.
For centuries GUM has preserved its original Old Russian style along with contemporary architectural interpretation. There has changed nothing except customers leaving satisfied on doing shopping at Chanel or Versace boutiques.
After the excursion there are the following possibilities for tourists to do alone: enjoy a scenic view of Red Square sitting at the table of a restaurant; listen to endless sounds of the famous fountain when strolling under the glass dome; take part in a thematic exhibition or arts festival; get engrossed in an interesting masterclass; arrange oneself (take a shower, have a shave, brush the teeth) in the historic toilet now considered a museum.
One more point of the excursion is the world-famous architectural complex of the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square. Millions of tourists traditionally long to see St. Basil’s Cathedral; The Monument to Minin and Pozharsky who got people’s volunteer army together to batter Polish army; Eternal Light and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - the main War Memorial of the country situated in Aleksandrovsky Garden; Revolution Square / Ploshchad Revolyutsii and The State Historical Museum housing over 5 million exhibits that represents Russian culture and history; the Kremlin Towers; Nikolskaya Street – one of the oldest streets; Theatre (Teatralnaya) Square and the Bolshoi Theatre. As for the latter, each tourist will have a chance to compare the original with its prototype depicted on the 100-ruble bank note.
