Saint Petersburg. The city that ranks first in number of epithets and similes applied to its beauty and grandeur. A cultural capital of Russia famous for remarkable museums, palaces, bridges and white nights. Also known as Russian Palmira and Venice of the North. And so on ad infinitum. What surprises most is that it doesn’t appear to be overblown when in Saint Petersburg. Hard to say how much it may take to see the entire city. It’s normally taken for granted to spend a few days in the Hermitage enjoying its unique exhibits. Gorgeous fountains, parks and palaces of Peterhof, impressive forts of Kronstadt, the Amber Room in Tsar’s Village, world-known palace ensembles in Gatchina, Oranienbaum, Strelna, Pavlovsk – the must-see suburban places of interest to be included in a sightseeing tour. Most of them are referred to as UNESCO World Heritage. On returning to Saint Petersburg don’t miss St. Isaac’s, Kazan and other grand cathedrals, the Peter and Paul Fortress, hundreds of amazing bridges, monuments, palaces, museums. At night Saint Petersburg remains equally attractive and busy. One can decide on a pub, restaurant, night club or stroll around this incredible city.
