The Sakhalin lakes and lagoons are perfect for spearfishing during every season of the year. The shape of the island reminds one of a fish with heavy shining scales. Since ancient times the fish scales stood for the upland areas of Sakhalin. The island’s relief is characterized by an amazing combination of forests, plains, mountains, volcanoes and rocky freaks of nature frozen in the profound depths of the sea. Due to its relief, scientists and explorers consider Sakhalin “a country” of rivers and lakes, a labyrinth of water and land. 
One of the most popular natural attractions available for spearfishing is Lake Tunaicha.  Representing a saltwater lagoon.it’s the island’s second largest lake of 174 sq. km in area. Tunaicha boasts of diversity in its fauna, comprising 29 fish species attributed to 13 families. Humpback, dog and silver salmon, 4 crucian carp and smelt species are the most widespread. A catch will be a success for both a professional fisherman and for a first-timer. Annually, spearfishermen come to the island for trophies such as wild carp and Sakhalin char that can correspondingly reach up to 20 and 11 kg. 
Lake Tunaicha  is now listed as a unique National Natural Landmark. Various bird species inhabiting the island are listed in the Red Book. One can see hundreds of swans decorating the lake shores. The rich flora and fauna, impressive natural beauty, clean air, remoteness from the transportation connection and the hustle and bustle of the city is a recipe for a great catch with bright photos and vivid impressions.
