The mighty Sea of Okhotsk is a basin of the Pacific Ocean bordering on Russia and Japan. The sea is characterized by a violent temper, rugged bottom relief, sharply changing temperature conditions, unpredictable fogs and storms. Such marine mammals as white-, grey- and killer whales are possible to see with close proximity. Seals are easy to meet, Sakhalin taimen is difficult to catch.
In contrast to the north of Sakhalin Island, its central and southern parts are more favourable for deep sea fishing and undersea hunting.
