Cape Velikan consists of a number of unique sea cliffs created by nature. They are located in the southeastern part of the Tonino-Aniva Peninsula. There is no comparably picturesque site on Sakhalin Island like this one. The cape is said to be named by Russian explorer Ivan Kruzenstern who was totally captivated by the natural beauty of the sea cliffs. No wonder – singularly fine and steep they immediately catch the eye. When looking at the cliffs, one can’t help but imagining and finding a head of a dragon or a tiger in their contours. Sakhalin boasts of two more capes - Cape Grozny which looks like a menacing warrior and Cape Trudny which is considered a remarkable observation point. Silent and unique, the capes stand endlessly in the profound depths of the Sea of Okhotsk. The tops of sea caves and grottos are home to various bird species. The breeze, the gentle rolling waves, and the sublime beauty of the sea and cliffs make an impression of peace and relaxation.
The tour also includes three famous lakes to stay for a while. Lake Izmenchivoye Lake is supposed to be a treasury of therapeutic muds. Tunaicha is the second largest lake on Sakhalin Island which comprises 29 fish species attributed to 13 families. Busse is a lagoon lake represented by an oyster island. At low tide there are enormous possibilities to enjoy fresh sea food specialities by picking them up straight from underfoot. Besides the oysters a lot of other species inhabit the lake: mussels, crabs, trepangs, sea hedgehogs, scallops, and various fishes. That’s exactly why Lake Busse is believed to have been an object of envy for the French.
The tour continues to the observation point of Korsakov which greets the town, the bay and and the world's biggest liquefied natural gas plant.
